Gilbert H. Hood Middle School
Friday, 12/7/12 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
We believe strongly in the need for a well-developed relationship between the home
and school. As a result, we have structured our conference night to take into account
the developmental needs of early adolescents by engaging them in the learning and
communication process. In addition, this model is supportive of our comprehensive
middle school philosophy that values the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical
aspects of each child.
We are asking that you call the school at 432-1224 to make an appointment to meet with
your child’s advisor on Friday, December 7. In addition, we are asking you to bring your
child with you to this conference. He/she has been working with his/her advisor and
classroom teachers to prepare for this meeting.
This meeting will be focused on the academic and social/emotional development of your
child. Academic reflections will be prepared in advance in order to give you a glimpse
at some of the learning that has happened so far this year. In addition, advisors will
share NWEA test results so that you will have an update regarding your child's current
instructional strengths and weaknesses. Your child will also share the results of some
personal goal setting that has been conducted with the help of his/her advisor.
We will be sending home a pre-conference questionnaire via email on Wednesday,
November 28. Our hope is that you will respond to these questions via email to your
child's advisor by Monday, December 4 so that we can be aware of any questions or
concerns you may have in advance of conferences. As always, if you have an immediate
question or concern, please contact the individual classroom teacher or your child's
advisor via phone or email. All of our teacher's email addresses and phone extensions can
be found at our school website.
Conferences will begin at 1:00 p.m. on December 7 and will continue until 7:00 p.m. In
order to schedule a conference, please call the GHHMS office at 432-1224.
Just a reminder, on Conference Day (Dec. 7) there is NO SCHOOL for students.
We look forward to seeing you on December 7.
